I completely disagree about Newtek losing business. Many places who have been using 3D Studio
are also getting Lightwave or are converting to Lightwave. Our company, as well as many others are
looking for ways to save money on the cost of creating video games. Compare the cost of say 10 seats
of 3D Studio or Max compared to 10 seats of Lightwave. I was told by the AutoDesk Rep to not run it
on Win95 "due to instability". Its designed to run under NT. Lightwave runs on the Amiga, Win3.1
Win95, SGI and Dec Alpha machines under NT. 3D Studio Max will not be available for Dec Alpha machines
until the end of the year. HOW many students can afford to buy a full blown PC, with RAM, Win NT and Max?
A student can afford a used PC or Pentium clone, Win3.1 and Lightwave for MUCH cheaper. The statement that
its smart to market at students is completely ludicrous. I was involved in PC sales for several years and
students were the last people anyone wanted to market to. They typically DONT have any money especially
those going into CGI. Our company has never hired a student except for graphics grunt work. We looked for
approximately 10 months for decent 3d animators and it was a bust. I am now in charge of training our junior
artists on Lightwave. None want to put out the bucks for Max. Many others I know in this industry have talked
to me about how BAD the demo reels are getting with time. Students DONT have money, CANT afford to go
to decent CGI schools and have a hard time getting hired. Now you put on top of all that the cost of MAX and the upgrade later
to the full license and the cost of the machine and hardware to support NT and I can see why you think its
